Elders Voice endeavour to provide a range of activities to over-55s living in Brent, who want to meet new people, get fit or learn a new skill. Don’t see anything you fancy? Tell us what kind of activities you would like to take part in!

Chair Yoga

Tuesdays at 12pm-1pm
Chair Yoga is a gentle, seated exercise class for people who want to stay supple in body and mind. Suitable for all levels, the series of movements and stretches are easy to follow and gently exercise all areas of the body. This class aims to improve your balance, increase your bone strength, boost your immunity and lower your stress levels. At the end of the session we enjoy some deep breathing and participants often feel more calm & relaxed than when they arrived. This class is £4.00 per session.

“I love coming to Elders Voice. Everyone is so nice and since joining Yoga my bones feels better.” – Chair Yoga participant

Zumba Gold

Wednesdays at 11am-12pm
Zumba Gold is a Latin dance & aerobics class which combines various dance moves including those from salsa, samba, mambo, cha cha and more, all to the sound of fabulously upbeat, Latin dance music. Zumba Gold was especially designed with older people in mind and is an excellent way to increase your muscle strength, improve your balance & flexibility and alleviate stress. It’s also really fun (we’ve yet to meet someone who hasn’t smiled or laughed at least once in a session!) and a great place to meet new people. This class is £4.00 per session.

“Zumba makes me feel light and full of energy. It’s the highlight of my day on Wednesday and I hate when I have to miss it!” – Zumba Gold participant

Weight Training Group Class

Wednesdays at 2.30pm-3.30pm, starting 6th December 2023
Join us on Wednesdays and discover how to use weight training as a wonderful way to keep fit in later life. Boost your heart health, improve you balance & posture and strengthen your bones! Each week we will target different parts of the body, and you will learn about the various muscle groups and how they can be improved through weight training. Led by expert trainer Sharon Henry, the weight training class is also a great way to de-stress and lighten your load. This class is free to attend. Limited places are available, so please book in advance by calling the Wellbeing Manager on: 020 8206 7503. Small weights can be provided to up to 10 people.

Weight Training One to One

Fridays at 1pm-1.30pm / 1.30pm-2pm, starting 8th December 2023
Join us on Fridays and take part in 30 minutes of specialist weight training. Sharon will help you target any areas on the body that are troubling you, and improve your overall fitness (including your heart health, balance and bone strength). Sharon will work with two older adults at a time, tailoring the session to fit your personal needs, in an uninterrupted, safe environment. Over time you will develop a solid understanding of weight training and will be able to practice safely on your own. The one-to-one sessions are free to attend. Limited places are available, so please book in advance by calling the Wellbeing Manager on: 020 8206 7503.

Generations Together

Fridays at 1pm-4pm, 3rd November 2023 – 2nd February 2024
Take part in an exciting co-design project with children from Princess Frederica Primary School and other older adults in Brent. Over ten workshops you will learn different design techniques, have lots of fun and come up with ideas for an intergenerational space. (An intergenerational space, is a space where people of all ages can meet, spend time together, form friendships and create stronger communities.) You will pitch your ideas to local residents at a pop-up café, and the winning idea will be brought to life! You don’t have to have any design experience to take part, just a desire to spend time with people who are a different age to you. This project is free to participate in. If you are worried about transport, let us know and we will see if we can help.

“Seeing the children and older people find common ground was one of my favourite parts of the experience. We discovered that, despite our superficial differences, we are more alike than we first thought!” – Anna, Teacher
