A Grand Day Out

In August, our Day Centre clients went on a trip to Kenwood House, as part of a reminiscence project which is being delivered by the Brent Culture Service and Tuareg Productions. We travelled by minibus and were given the great privilege of driving up the sweeping, gravel driveway, to the front entrance of the house, where we parked. This made it easier for our clients to access the house without having to walk from the visitor car park. We felt like lords and ladies for the day. Once we were inside, we toured the rooms, admiring the paintings, drapes and chandeliers as we went. There is a lot to feast your eyes on at Kenwood House, and our clients particularly liked the life-size statues and opulent furniture. We paused in some of the rooms and listened to interesting stories shared by the Kenwood House volunteers, such as the rivalry between Gainsborough and Reynolds, whose paintings are hung on the walls. Of course we made the obligatory trip to the gift shop, and bought coffees from the Brew House Café to refuel. At lunchtime, we ate our sandwiches outside in the beautiful grounds, with a view of Wood Pond and the magnificent trees surrounding it. It was a brilliant day, soaking in the history and enjoying a change of scene. We are very grateful to the staff at Kenwood House for being so accommodating of our group and we look forward to returning!
