Floating Support Service

The Floating Support Service contract will end on Tuesday 8th August 2023. We will not be taking any new referrals after Monday 15th May 2023.

The Floating Support Service aims to help older people maintain their independence and maximize their quality of life. We empower our clients by encouraging them to participate in and influence the service they receive, through jointly developing support plans which best suit their needs and aspirations.

“My project worker has helped me very much. I would speak with her on the phone and pick up on the kindness in her voice. I got relief with her. She helped me find a new home. At first it felt like a rebirth. Where I am living now is near to a place that is very familiar. All my friends used to live round here when I was a boy; that brought back happy memories.” – Floating Support client

We offer support in a range of areas including but not limited to:

  • Benefit entitlements such as pension credit, attendance allowance and personal independent payment
  • Developing individual debt management strategies
  • Filling in forms such as applications to Blue Badge, Dial-a-Ride and Taxi Card
  • Registering with a GP
  • Help relocating to more appropriate accommodation
  • Support with accessing local activities and maintaining physical & mental health
  • Developing individual safety and security strategies to help people feel safe at home
  • Signposting and supporting the access of other local services
  • Support with accessing education and volunteering opportunities

“Not all older people have a family or someone to advocate on their behalf, and navigating the care system can be challenging. That’s why the work we do is crucial to ensuring older people are not marginalised, and get to enjoy a good quality of life, regardless of their age.” – Mercel Hislop, Floating Support Manager
