Cost of Living Support

Cost of Living Support

Elders Voice has received funding from Independent Age to help older adults access grants to make their homes more energy efficient and lower their bills. Fuel prices have sky rocketed, but there are ways to reduce costs without having to choose between a hot meal and a warm home, and we are here to help.

Household ‘MOT’

If you are having to use less heating, reduce the amount you spend on food and forgo crucial repairs to your property, you may benefit from a Household ‘MOT’. Our Cost of Living Coordinator will visit you at home and assess whether you can save money by making your home more energy efficient. You may be eligible to apply for a government grant to pay for a new boiler, insulation or double glazing. If you are eligible, the Cost of Living Coordinator will help you submit an application. They will also assess whether you could benefit from other handy work in the home, and make suggestions on smaller ways to reduce your energy bill such as bleeding your radiators, using energy saving light bulbs and switching off appliances where possible.

Benefit Health Check

Navigating the benefits system is not as straightforward as one would hope, and thousands of pounds go unclaimed every year. Yet there are several benefits available to older adults and our Cost of Living Coordinator can help you apply. Worrying about money and feeling stressed can lead to poor health. Our Cost of Living Coordinator will find out how you are coping, listen to your concerns and give you tips on how to remain healthy and happy during these trying times. Where possible, they will signpost you to other organisations that can provide useful information and support.
