What’s new at Elders Voice?

Elders Voice has won a tender for running Dementia/Memory Cafes in Brent and this service starts with immediate effect. We shall be developing an existing Café in Hay Lane in Kingsbury and developing a new Café at Elders Voice beginning in January 2018. We are delighted that we have the opportunity to offer this service to people with dementia and their families and carers. There will be more information about the Cafes soon, please stay tuned.

Calling all grandparents!

Shiver Productions are developing an exciting new television programme for a major broadcaster and are looking for vibrant, fun and outgoing grandparents who want to spend more time with their adult grandchildren (who must be 18+).

With a lot of grandparents reportedly only seeing their grandkids on average twice a year, it’s not surprising the two generations often know little about each other’s lives. In this new TV programme grandparents will spend one-on-one time with their multiple grandchildren in an attempt to get to know them better and see if they can offer any help.

Along the way they will learn about the pressures their grandchildren face, the lifestyle choices they make, their hopes for the future and what, if anything, is standing in their way of achieving them.

The programme will allow grandparents to share their knowledge, advice and practical help while learning more about the lives, hopes and aspirations of their grandchildren.

If you are interested in appearing in this new television programme, please call 0207 157 4588.

Become a blumer!

Let flexible work find you.
Blume is a new enterprise which finds paid flexible work for older people – and it is free to sign up. The work will range from DIY tasks to dog walking and mystery shopping and much more besides. There will also be telephone and computer jobs that you can do from home. In fact, if you have a skill that you think others will find useful then please tell Blume about it and we will do our best to promote it. You decide what you want to do and when you want to do it. You also decide how much you want to charge as long as it is above the national living wage – and if you don’t need the money the site allows you to donate what you earn to charities.

From 1st September 2017, Elders Voice will be delivering an Older Peoples Floating Support Service along with the Handyperson Service. Please watch this space for more details coming soon!

We are slashing our prices!

The Elders Voice Day Centres run three days a week – on Mondays in Kingsbury and on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Kensal Green. We shall be opening a fourth day on Wednesdays in Kensal Green from April 2017. The majority of our Day Centre referrals come through Brent Adult Social Care but we also have privately funded places available.

We offer our Day Centre members a variety of opportunities to socialise, take part in activities and have an enjoyable and relaxing day. Please watch our video here. Alongside this we also enable the carers of these people to have a break from their caring responsibilities. These breaks are exceptionally important and give carers the time to recharge their batteries. At the Day Centres the activities include movement to music and yoga- chair based exercises, arts and crafts, singing and quizzes.

A day in our private Day Centre costs £40. The cost of the lunch is £5, however people are welcome to bring their own food in. We can also provide a pick up for £5 and a drop off for another £5.

If you would like any further information please contact Ian Austin on 0208 206 7505 or email him at: iana@eldersvoice.org.uk

“There’s nowhere to raise my concerns - no one listens - no one does anything”

We heard this from a resident just the other week – let us tell you that there are ways of raising
your concerns and, equally important, of sharing good experiences.

The role of Healthwatch Brent is to take resident experiences of health and social care to the
council, the NHS, and others who provider your services and make decisions about your services.
If we don’t hear residents’ views we cannot do this. So please let us know what is good and what needs to be better with your health and social care service. We can come and visit your group, you can ask a local organisation to let us know, or you can contact us directly.Your voice can make a difference – if you let us hear it.

There are also a range of opportunities to attend consultation and listening events held by Brent CCG and the Council – we advertise as many of these as possible.

Clearly, services have to fit within the constraints of the money available, but there is a strong desire within the Council and the CCG to design services around residents. They are keen for us to provide as much evidence as possible that comes from one source only – you, the residents, workers and volunteers of Brent.

Day Care services at Elders Voice

Elders Voice is a leading adult care provider in Brent  and we have been doing so successfully since 1993. Elders Voice Day Centre in Kensal Green offers a bright and vibrant space where Day Centre members can spend their days on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also offer a Day Centre at Harrod Court in Kingsbury on a Monday. We now offer self-funded placements to older people who have not met Adult Social Care criteria, or who would like to pay without any assessment. These self-funded placements cost £75 per day which includes transport to and from the Day Centre, a two-course meal and refreshments throughout the day. We offer massage, movement to music, singing, arts and crafts and games. We provide a fun and relaxed environment where everyone can enjoy their day. For more information please  click here or contact Jenny Davison on 0208 206 7507 / jennyd@eldersvoice.org.uk
